owerful and magical: the invocation of the goddess of fate in the chorus "O Fortuna" is a perennial favourite in film music. And Carl Orff's entire setting of the medieval song collection Carmina Burana is a perennial favourite in musical life. Professionals, however, do not take it up too often.

We present an all the more exciting season finale under Music Director Paavo Järvi and with the Zurich Sing-Akademie. The texts are almost a thousand years old, and yet they tell of no distant time: there are lovely nature lyrics, tender and coarse love songs, hearty pub songs, a village feast and the lament of a swan on a spit. Orff was thrilled and wrote to his publisher: «Everything I have written so far and which you have unfortunately printed, you can now stomp out!»
