T

he Stadtcasino Basel shines in new splendour. After four years of construction, the wonderful music hall, which is appreciated worldwide for its acoustics, will reopen during the summer. Together with the architect Andreas Fries, a partner of Herzog & de Meuron, Neues Orchester Basel is organising an extraordinary concert evening - and we are going to be part of it!

As at the opening of the hall in 1876, Mozart's Magic Flute Overture and Beethoven's Ninth Symphony will be performed. In addition, the audience will gain exclusive insights into the development of the project "Extension of the Stadtcasino Basel". The orchestra will accompany these explanations with sound samples from Beethoven's preliminary sketches. Commissioned by the NOB, the renowned Swiss composer Daniel Schnyder, who lives in New York, is writing a contemporary response to Beethoven's visionary work for this occasion. What does it sound like today when Beethoven's Ninth is being further developed? How do architects succeed in reconciling historical building fabric and a contemporary architectural vision? A concert evening with surprising perspectives on music and architecture and filled with joy, beautiful spark of the gods!
